Archery Training Experience

Archery is one of Mongolia’s Three Manly Sports, alongside wrestling and horse racing, and it remains deeply woven into the country’s cultural identity. Mongolia’s continued success on the international archery stage often draws attention to the athletes—but far less is known about the craftspeople who make their equipment.

Our Archery Training Experience begins in Ulaanbaatar with a visit to the home workshop of Tomorkhuu Batmonkh, widely regarded as Mongolia’s foremost traditional bow and arrow maker. His home doubles as his workspace, every surface shaped by years of careful craftsmanship. Here, you’ll see how composite bows and arrows are made entirely by hand and learn how Mongolian archery techniques, materials, and designs have adapted over time.

Batmonkh’s passion for his craft is unmistakable. As he talks through each stage of the process—from raw materials to finished bow—he offers a rare insight into a living tradition that continues to evolve rather than stand still.

After exploring the artistry behind the equipment, you’ll have the chance to try it yourself. Under Batmonkh’s guidance, you’ll shoot one of his handcrafted composite bows, known for their speed, precision, and balance, and used by Mongolia’s leading competitive archers.

Following a local lunch, the experience continues with a focused two-hour training session at one of Mongolia’s top archery schools. Here, professional instructors introduce you to the foundations of traditional Mongolian archery, including correct ground stance, thumb draw technique, and static target shooting—allowing you to build skill and confidence through guided practice.

This experience is about understanding the skill, discipline, and craftsmanship that sit at the heart of Mongolian archery—and meeting the people who keep that tradition alive today.
