‘It was amazing to meet Selenge and all of the women at the quilting centre. It was a really inspiring experience to get to see the wonderful work they are doing there and learn all about the projects they are doing! They were incredibly welcoming and it was really great to spend some time there with them.’ EL guest Emma
Embark on a meaningful one-day tour experience at the Mongolian Quilting Centre, also known as the New Way Life NGO. Founded in 2005 by Selenge Tserendash, this organisation is dedicated to empowering disadvantaged and unemployed women by providing training in quilting, textiles, and embroidery. Through their craftsmanship, these women generate income to support their families, creating a positive impact in their communities.
During your visit, you’ll have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the daily operations of the centre and workshop, working alongside the talented women supported by the NGO. Gain firsthand insight into the workings of a small NGO while engaging with local people and sharing in their ideas and concerns.
In addition to crafting everyday items like tote bags and tablecloths, the women at the centre create stunning fabric artwork, including exquisite wall hangings made from discarded and recycled materials. You’ll have the chance to create your own Mongolian-style wall hanging under the guidance of these skilled artisans.
By participating in this tour, not only will you take home a unique piece of Mongolian art, but you’ll also contribute to supporting local women and the economy. Join us for a day of creativity, camaraderie, and meaningful connections as we support the important work of the Mongolian Quilting Centre.
‘Having the chance to meet the people who are part of this project was an incredible experience as was having the opportunity to be taught by them. It is an amazing project that is doing so much to support both the local community as well as women in their outreach projects.’ EL guest Emma
