We offer two cookery experiences in Ulaanbaatar, depending on how much time you have and the kind of insight you’re looking for. Choose between a shorter hands-on class in our office-home or a fuller day that combines ger district context with a ger-based cooking experience.

Cook & Connect: Half Day Experience

Half Day Experience Overview

An informal Mongolian cookery class in our Ulaanbaatar office-home.

For those with only a few hours to spare, this informal cookery class offers a warm introduction to Mongolian cuisine and everyday life. Hosted in our cosy office-home in Ulaanbaatar, it reflects who we are — a small, community-focused team sharing modern Mongolia in a personal and welcoming setting.

You’ll cook alongside one of our all-female team of trip assistants — women who prepare these meals regularly for their own families. As you chop, stir, and share stories together, you’ll gain insight into Mongolia’s food culture and discover how simple, local ingredients are turned into nourishing, flavourful dishes.

Dishes may include Tsuivan (stir-fried flour noodles), khuushuur (mutton pancakes), and buuz (Mongolian dumplings). For vegetarians, we can adapt the ingredients.

Ger District to Ger Kitchen: Full Day Experience

Experience Overview

A full-day Ulaanbaatar food and culture experience

This full-day experience offers a broader introduction to food, place, and everyday life in Ulaanbaatar. Beginning with a visit to a community project in the ger district that we have supported for many years, you’ll gain insight into life in an area that shapes the lives of many people in the capital, yet is still little understood by most visitors.

Accompanied by one of our trip assistants, the morning adds important social context to the day, helping connect the realities of urban Mongolia with the food traditions you will encounter later. After time at the project, you’ll continue to a family ger on the outskirts of the city for a hands-on cookery experience with local hosts.

There, in their home ger, you’ll cook and share food together while learning more about Mongolian home cooking, hospitality, and daily life. This is not simply a cookery class, but a fuller cultural experience that brings together food, conversation, and a more grounded understanding of modern Ulaanbaatar.

Dishes may include Tsuivan (stir-fried flour noodles), khuushuur (mutton pancakes), and buuz (Mongolian dumplings). For vegetarians, we can adapt the ingredients.
