We are a small Mongolian-registered company, handling about 150-200 bookings annually, with a deep commitment to social impact. Our business is driven by a strong ethical framework, aiming to make a positive difference through tourism that preserves the livability of Mongolia.
Jess, an experienced international tour leader, developed a deep passion for Mongolia, where she has been based since 2006. In 2010, she co-founded Eternal Landscapes with Turuu, challenging traditional tourism perceptions of the country.
Turuu and I had been working together in Mongolia for four years as a tour leader and driver for a UK-based adventure company. One morning, I had to break the news to Turuu that our jobs had ended because the company was sold and restructured.
We proudly refer to ourselves as ‘manaikhan’—a term signifying ‘ours’ or ‘our people’ in Mongolian, akin to the concept of family. Mongolia isn’t just a destination for us; it’s our home—a place we know intimately and hold deep affection for.
Our partnerships evolve into genuine personal friendships, built over time with tea and sometimes vodka. We never ask our partners to change their daily routines or put on a show. For each visit, we provide what we call a sustainable payment for time and services.
Our mission is to deliver transformative tour experiences in Mongolia, rooted in respect and ethics alongside our core values of integrity, equity, and community. We are dedicated to fostering meaningful connections and promoting equitable tourism that prioritises the well-being of local communities and showcases modern Mongolia. Through our commitment to these principles, we aim to honour and help preserve Mongolia’s cultural and natural heritage.
We aspire to create a community where travel not only inspires but also contributes positively to the places it touches. Through our commitment to respect, integrity, equity, and community-first principles, we envision every journey enriching both the traveler and the local people, culture, and environment of Mongolia. Our goal is to foster a community of responsible and connected citizens, united through the unique experiences of Mongolia.
Our core values—integrity, equity, and community—guide our decision-making. Beyond these, we embrace a broader set of guiding principles that reflect our commitment to responsible tourism and embody the unique spirit of Mongolia. Learn more here.
Integrity is the cornerstone of our operations. For us, it means conducting our business with honesty, transparency, and fairness.
At the heart of our mission is fostering a sense of community among our guests, team, and the local people we partner with and support. We believe that travel should be a force for positive change, supporting local economies and enhancing the wellbeing of host communities. Our tours encourage meaningful interactions and cultural exchanges, building bridges of understanding.
We are driven by a commitment to equity, ensuring that our tours benefit everyone involved—our guests, our team, and the local communities we partner with and support.
Together we are stronger: We invite you to join us on this journey. Discover more about how we invite you to travel with us here.
As a social travel enterprise, we prioritise more than just financial performance. Mongolia is our home, and we are dedicated to creating authentic experiences that benefit local families and support long-term community projects. We emphasise social equity for our team and strive to make responsible choices in all aspects of our operations. By consciously limiting our company to 150-200 travellers per year, we are deeply committed to social responsibility over financial gain.
Transparency and impact are core to our mission. With guidance from Responsible Tourism Consultant Léa Jacquot-Benson, we are setting specific metrics and goals to publish an annual impact report. While measuring impact inherently includes some subjectivity, we are focusing on key areas that reflect our commitment.
Tourism has the potential to contribute directly or indirectly to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), addressing issues such as inequality, conserving and preserving fragile ecosystems, clean drinking water, tackling climate change, and sustainable energy. We use six of the SDGs to provide a framework for our activities in Mongolia. Below are our main four:
Tourism can empower women, particularly through the provision of direct jobs and income-generation.
Promoting sustained, inclusive economic growth and ensuring decent work for men and women is crucial for improving their livelihoods.
Tourism can be a powerful tool for community development and reducing inequalities if it engages local populations and all key stakeholders in its development.
Climate change is a real and undeniable threat, with its effects already visible. By making thoughtful changes to how we work, we can help protect our small corner of the planet.
As part of our responsible tourism philosophy, we have established partnerships with local projects in Mongolia. Our support goes beyond financial donations (though we do contribute); we integrate these projects into our trips. This approach ensures that the experiences we offer have a greater positive impact on local communities, providing support that extends beyond financial contributions. We have collaborated with most of these projects for over a decade. See below for examples of our work, or follow this link for more.
